For Christmas my parents were very generous–they gave me and Tony a gift certificate to Russell Salvitore’s new steakhouse (complete with an evening of free babysitting, of course). Before making our reservations, we saw a Russell’s commercial for an overnight package at his adjoining hotel that included dinner for two. We asked my parents if they would pretty-please upgrade their gift to an overnight of babysitting–a kid-free night…whoopee!
Tony and I had survived a very hectic week, and desperately needed to celebrate, so we toasted to a fun and stress-free 2010 and were halfway through our wonderful dinner…when Tony started feeling funny (NOT the food–the food was great). ” I think this week has just been too much for me.” he said. We decided to get our dessert to go and eat it in the room.
By the time we reached the room, Tony had a fever! He was shivering, could not get warm, cranked the heat in the room up to ninety degrees and spent the next two hours poaching himself in the room’s jacuzzi tub. My romantic night ended by scooping poor hubby out of the tub, wrapping him in towels and blankets and putting him to bed.
The next morning he was covered in hives!
After a trip to the pharmacy and a day of bed and Bennedryl, which did not help, Tony spent Saturday night at the Immediate Care Center.
Turns out, he had the Chicken Pox!!!
It is the following Friday, and Tony is finally on the mend (three large bottles of Calamine lotion later). We have since learned that the worst thing one can do when getting the Chicken Pox is to take a hot bath(oh dear).
I am looking forward to taking Tony out for a beer at Mammosers tonight–he could use some fresh air after a week of solitary confinement.
I don’t think we will be ordering any form of chicken there though!
